Exploratory ground investigations (GI) for the DART + Coastal South Project were archaeologically monitored between 31 March and 23 April 2025.
16 off-track GI works were monitored along the existing railway corridor, all located in Bray, to the south of Bray (Daly) Station. The monitored locations were mainly focussed to existing railway bridges on Victoria Avenue and Convent Avenue. Two isolated GI locations – east of the railway corridor north of Putland Road and south of the railway corridor at Raheen Park – were also monitored.
The 16 monitored GI works were located at Victoria Avenue (x 6 locations), Convent Avenue (x 8 locations), off Putland Road (x 1 location) and at Raheen Avenue (x 1 location).
The GI works consisted of 3 borehole pits, 2 slit trenches, 4 foundation inspection pits and 7 pavement inspection pits. The stratigraphy was recorded and the excavated material checked for artefacts. The basal depth of the foundation to stone bridges or stone wing walls on Victoria Avenue and Convent Avenue was noted where exposed.
No archaeological finds, features or deposits were identified during monitored works.
