Archaeological testing was undertaken in association with the permitted Tincurry Solar Farm and Ballylough Solar Farm located in the townlands of Lodgewood, Tincurry, Ballycarney, Crory, Coolbaun, Ballylough, Co. Wexford.

Test trenching commenced during January 2025 and continued for 26 days. A total of 253 trenches were mechanically investigated across the test area, which measured 667 linear metres in total. Testing revealed 23 areas of archaeological potential, which have been designated as Archaeological Areas 1-23 (AA1-23).

  • AA1 – One sub-oval pit containing heat-affected clay and charcoal
  • AA2 – One sub-oval burnt mound spread
  • AA3 – One sub-circular pit
  • AA4 – One sub-oval pit containing charcoal, one sub-circular pit
  • AA5 – One sub-oval pit containing heat-affected clay and charcoal
  • AA6 – One sub-circular pit
  • AA7 – Five sub-circular pits
  • AA8 – One sub-circular charcoal-rich spread
  • AA9 – Burnt mound spread and five associated pits
  • AA10 – One charcoal clamp containing heat-affected clay and charcoal layer
  • AA11 – Burnt mound spread
  • AA12 – Two sub-circular pits and a curvilinear charcoal-rich feature
  • AA13 – One sub-circular pit

  • AA19 – One sub-oval enclosure defined by one ditch on northern extent and two examples on the eastern extent. A further curvilinear ditch which may be contemporary was identified to the immediate east. One heavily truncated Bronze Age cremation urn was uncovered immediately inside the easternmost ditch.
