Archaeological test trenching was undertaken on 19 December 2025 at Killeens, Wexford Town, Co. Wexford, in advance of a proposed residential development on a 2.25ha greenfield site. The works were carried out under Excavation Licence 25E1154, with metal detection under Detection Device Consent 25R0538.

Six test trenches, totalling 482m in length, were excavated by machine under archaeological supervision. The site comprises gently undulating agricultural land located c. 2km southwest of Wexford Town centre. No Recorded Monuments lie within the development footprint; however, a fulacht fia (WX042-099) is recorded c. 246m to the northeast at Ballynagee.

Two discrete burnt mound deposits were identified within Trenches 3 and 4. The feature in Trench 3 (C3) measured 10.10m (E–W) × 4.70m (N–S) and comprised charcoal-rich sandy clay with frequent heat-affected and fire-cracked sandstone inclusions. The feature in Trench 4 (C4) measured 6.70m (E–W) × 5.00m (N–S) and was of similar composition. No archaeological features were identified in Trenches 1, 2, 5 or 6.
