Archaeological monitoring was undertaken of all site clearance and ground works associated with the construction of an extension to a house at Baile na nGall Mór, Ring, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

The existing single-storey gabled cottage on the site comprises two windows and a central door. The ground to the north of the house slopes steeply to the shore, but the portion immediately adjoining the area of the cottage was levelled as a terrace in the recent past. The revetment bank (c. 3m high) of this terrace was supported with field stone. Topsoil was stripped from the area (9m east-west x 2m) of the new garage on the southern side of the cottage. Topsoil was also removed from the entire area of the terrace, of which the western section will form the area of the extension. The subsoil was a stoney orange-brown silty clay. The revetment bank was removed along with some of the ground between it and the cottage. The material was all modern infill and was loose and dry and included modern brick and rubbish.

No archaeological stratigraphy, features or artefacts were recorded while monitoring ground disturbance and reduction in the area of the house extension and garage in Baile na nGall Mór.
