Archaeological monitoring of topsoil stripping and groundworks for phase 1 of a housing development was undertaken from November 2024-January 2025. The site was stripped by a large, tracked machine fitted with a toothless grading bucket. Peat overlay a natural white/grey clay marl. No archaeological features were exposed or identified, and no finds were recovered. No further mitigation is recommended. Both Harte’s well, evident on 1910 25-inch OS map, and monument SL008-224 have been retained in situ within the development, the latter monument preserved within a buffer zone.
