Nine test trenches were excavated along the line of the Recreational Trail Development in Derrymoylin and Cloonshannagh Bogs, Co. Roscommon. Trenches totalled 540 linear metres. Works took place on 10 and 11 February 2025. The Trail Development will follow the line of a pre-existing bog rail line which had been used by Bord na Móna for peat production and transportation. Trenches 1, 2, 3, 4, 10 & 11 were all excavated to a depth of 1.2m while Trenches 5, 6 & 8 were excavated to a depth of 0.5m in line with the excavation depths required for the proposed developments. Trenches 7 & 9 were not excavated due to inaccessible locations.

Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded in the course of these works.
