Test excavation was undertaken on 25t November 2025 at Little Road, Commons, Dromiskin, Co. Louth. Three trenches were excavated across the site.
Trench 1 was excavated to the south of the site. It was 40m long x 0.4m deep and consisted of a sandy topsoil overlying a yellow hard sandy subsoil. No archaeological finds or features were exposed.
Trench 2 was excavated to the centre of the site. It was 40m long x 0.4m deep and consisted of a sandy topsoil overlying a yellow hard sandy subsoil. No archaeological finds or features were exposed.
Trench 3 was located in the former driveway of the existing house on this site. It was located on the northern extent of the proposed site and measured 14m long x 0.25m deep with a layer of gravel and stones (0.2m) representing the former driveway with a thin layer (0.05m) of sandy topsoil over a firm yellow sandy subsoil. No archaeological finds or features were exposed. The site was reinstated on completion.
