Plans to extend a large gravel quarry by 14.2 ha required an extensive series of test trenches across its area. Twenty-eight trenches were cut in all, up to 200m long at most, while seven smaller slots (7-10m long) were dug on dangerous boggy ground. All excavation was to boulder clay level comprising gravelly daub or white marl; nothing archaeological turned up but with recommendations for further ground works to be monitored.
