Archaeological monitoring and metal detection survey of groundworks was undertaken at Bishops Quarter, Mungret Gate, Baunacloka, Mungret, Co. Limerick.

The area that was monitored comprised very disturbed ground that had been backfilled with stone and rubble from nearby construction. Topsoil measured on average 0.2m deep and comprised a loose mid-brown silt mixed with modern debris. Due to the formation levels of the permitted development, only a small portion of the natural subsoil was reached. This comprises a mid-orange clay with frequent rocks and boulders measuring on average 0.3m in diameter

The site appears to have been disturbed in the past as there was a lot of grey stone and gravel backfilled into the site. Monitoring identified no features or deposits of archaeological potential and a metal detection survey revealed no metal artefacts from the upcast material.
