Testing at Knockeen, Co. Kerry was undertaken over one day in the beginning of January 2025. A series of six parallel north-north-east/south-south-west orientated test trenches extending for c.220m were opened across the proposed development site. Topsoil was incrementally removed under archaeological supervision using a 13-ton machine with a flat 1.6m wide grading bucket. Excavated topsoil of average depth 0.3m consisted of dark brown peaty silt. Exposed subsoil consisted mainly of orange and light grey gravelly silt. Nothing of archaeological interest was discovered and no artefacts were recovered during testing.
