Monitoring of groundworks in Rahogarty South townland, 3.5km north-east of Tuam in County Galway, was carried out on 5 August 2025. The project consisted of the construction of a dwelling house, domestic garage and effluent treatment system. The monitoring was carried out as part of the planning process.
The development site was located across three fields of pasture. No features of archaeological significance were visible within the development site. The southern corner of the site was located within the constraint for a ringfort (RMP No. GA030-102).
The groundworks entailed the reduction in levels for the foundation of the new dwelling, its driveway, effluent treatment system and percolation area. The stratigraphy encountered during the monitoring was topsoil above natural subsoils. A land drain was uncovered crossing the eastern half of the driveway, along the southern side of the dwelling house. It measured 0.3m wide and was visible at 0.2m below the ground surface. No finds were recovered. Nothing of archaeological significance was in evidence.
