Archaeological monitoring of works for a new extension were conducted from 01/04/2025 to 21/05/25, at the south side of St Mary’s Church (The Church Bar and Restaurant, Dublin 1). A large limestone block was found ex-situ within the footprint of the extension plan and removed to facilitate the building. A carved stone volute, likely part of an 18th– or 19th-century gravestone, was found in the eastern section of a services trench within a post-medieval layer. Further west within the trench, a post-medieval layer with ceramics, animal bones, and construction debris was observed, alongside two large stone blocks (granite and sandstone). A disarticulated human ulna and a second possible human bone were discovered at a depth of 0.52m, and were re-interred as per the method statement. Additionally, flagstones were found towards the western end and were preserved in situ.
