A programme of archaeological monitoring was undertaken to facilitate the construction stage of the Cork Area Commuter Rail Glounthaune–Midleton Twin Track scheme.

Rubicon Archaeology Limited compiled an Archaeological, Architectural and Cultural Heritage Assessment of the entire route, which formed part of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (published in November 2022). Archaeological and architectural heritage constraints were identified along the route of the road and recommendations were set out for the treatment of the sites and potential sites identified in that document. Included in these recommendations were mitigation measures in the form of archaeological monitoring of groundworks in two Areas of Archaeological Potential located in temporary compound areas adjacent to the Owenacurra River and at Glounthaune Estuary. No archaeological features or deposits were recorded.
