A programme of geophysical survey (24R0188) within the available portion of a proposed large-scale residential development was carried out in March 2024. The survey, comprising high resolution magnetic gradiometry, was focused on an area of approximately 4.5 hectares. A possible ring-ditch and other features of archaeological potential were identified by the survey. Evidence for former cultivation and land division was also detected.
In the testing programme c.1622m of trenches were excavated. Likely archaeological activity was noted within Trenches 2, 3, 6, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 25 and this activity appeared to be concentrated in five areas.
A number of levelled historic field boundaries and disturbance related to agriculture were also identified during the programme of testing.
