The site at Rochfort Demesne and Carrick, Dalystown, Co. Westmeath, was archaeologically assessed by test trenching in March 2024 in advance of development. The assessment involved the excavation of nineteen test
trenches within the site, each measuring 1.8m in width with a total of 454m of linear trenches excavated. The subsoil was exposed in all trenches below the sod and topsoil at depths varying between 0.2m and 0.6m. It varied from dark grey stoney silty clay to sand and gravel with some rock outcrops. No archaeological features or deposits were identified within the excavated trenches and no finds were recovered. The work is now complete, and no further mitigation is necessary.
