A total of 5 test trenches were excavated. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and in total, 204m of linear trenches were excavated. Two trenches were shortened due to overhead powerlines. The topsoil ranged from a blackish-brown to brown clayey silt, and the natural was mainly a bright orange clayey silt. Modern agricultural activity was noted in the form of furrows, and an east-to-west field boundary ditch seen on the 1st edition OS map (surveyed 1837, published 1839) was noted in the southern end of Trench 5.
No archaeological features or deposits were observed or exposed within Trenches 1–5. Therefore, the proposed development will have no impact on archaeological features. No further work is recommended.
