Archaeological monitoring took place of excavations associated with the construction of a single dwelling house at Castlebin, south of New Inn in County Galway. The site is located within the Zone of Notification for GA086-076—-, an enclosure. The work was commissioned in response to condition no. 3 of a grant of planning.
The site is located on a south-facing slope which was previously in use for rough grazing. The stratigraphy was consistent throughout the site, with topsoil and sod comprising a mid-brown, sandy clay with a thickness of between 300–400mm. This overlaid a compact yellowish-brown clay with occasional medium and small-sized stones and patches of gravel. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted during the monitoring.
