The site is located to the rear of the former Cleary Department store at 13-15 Earl Place, Dublin 1 and was the site of the former warehouse buildings for Clery’s department store, O’Connell Street, Dublin.

Archaeological testing was carried out on the site in January 2024 for the present owner Whitbread PLC. Archaeological monitoring was recommended in the testing report.

An archaeological monitoring programme carried out on the week commencing 8 July 2024 by Aisling Collins and Jacqueline Mac Dermott. The monitoring was carried out under licence 24E0364. An 18th-century outbuilding and a 19th-century irregular-shaped pit were excavated. They were fully recorded and there are no further archaeological recommendations.
