Monitoring was made a condition of a grant of planning for the construction of a dwelling house in Behagh, Dunmanway, Cork due to its proximity to a ringfort (CO108-005), located to the east. The development site was situated within an area of improved pasture on the top of a broad ridge overlooking the Bandon River valley to the south.
Monitoring of the topsoil removal was carried out over the footprint of the dwelling house, percolation system and driveway, The stratigraphy consisted of between 0.3m and 0.4m of a mid-brown loamy topsoil which overlay orange/grey, gravelly boulder clay. The only feature uncovered was a 2m-wide linear spread of small stones along a northwest-southeast axis. This was interpreted as the remains of a field boundary shown on earlier OS maps which had been removed during farm improvements. No archaeology was found.
