Archaeological monitoring was carried out of the topsoil stripping of a Contractor’s Compound and numerous stockpiling areas along the route of the Realignment Scheme, Co. Cork. In total, nine areas were topsoil stripped for temporary materials stockpiling and were spread out either side of the scheme. During the stripping of the stockpiling areas two small pits were discovered within part of Area 5b, the first being a charcoal-rich pit C01 (possible hearth or even a possible furnace base) with an area of heat-affected clay around it, measuring 0.91m in length, 0.75m in width and 0.17m in depth. The second was a linear type feature (C02), with a charcoal-rich silty clay with frequent stones, measuring 2m in length, 0.53m in width and with a depth of 0.16m. These features have been left in-situ. No other archaeology was found.
