The archaeological licence was applied for and received in July 2020. However, due to various considerations, such as approvals from adjacent property owners etc., the project did not commence until the end of January 2023.The project involved extensi0on of public car park in to adjacent land purchased by Tipperary County Council.
Ground works and boundary wall removal took place between 25 and 31 January 2023 and was archaeologically monitored. It involved mechanical excavation of soil removal in advance of replacement with layer of stone chip (Clause 804) and further build-up of the lower ground level to a height compatible with the existing adjacent car park and surmounted by concrete surface.
Modern stratigraphy was encountered throughout the works.
