Monitoring of site investigation works (trial pits) was carried out intermittently at Oweninny Bog, County Mayo, between August and November 2023.
The stratigraphy of the trial pits comprised varying depths of peat immediately overlying the natural subsoil. Some areas of previous disturbance were identified overlying the peat; this consisted of a layer of made ground resulting from the construction of roads and railways traversing the bog for historic peat harvesting.
No finds or features of archaeological potential were identified during the course of monitoring.
