Monitoring of groundworks along two sections of the Tooreen—Aghamore Group Water Scheme in County Mayo, was carried out on 3 April 2023. The two sections of the pipeline route were located in the vicinity of two recorded monuments in Mountaincommon townland, south-east of Aghamore village.
The first section of the pipeline route which was monitored was located through a field of pasture, 27m away from a ringfort (RMP No. MA082-024). It measured 76m long, 0.5–0.7m wide and 0.5–0.8m deep. The second section of the pipeline route which was monitored was located along the south-west side of a large field of pasture, 20m from an enclosure (RMP N0. MA081-037). It measured 87m long, 0.6–0.8m wide and 0.4–0.7m deep.
The stratigraphy encountered during the monitoring of groundworks was topsoil above natural subsoils. No artefacts were visible. Nothing of archaeological significance was in evidence.
