An archaeological assessment, including geophysical survey, test-trenches and visual impact assessment, was carried out at Garraunbaun, Ballynahinch, Co. Galway. The site is located in close proximity to a Standing Stone (RMP GA022-040).

The geophysical survey identified five potential archaeological features within the Study Area. The test-trenching programme focused on testing these five anomalies. All five were demonstrated to be geological in nature. An additional test trench was excavated along the line of the proposed new dwelling foundation, and this found no archaeological features. Despite the high archaeological potential and the close proximity of the standing stone, no archaeological features or deposits were identified in any of the test trenches.
