2023:796 - Milford WwTW, Donegal

It is proposed upgrade the existing sewer network in the villages of Ramelton, Millford and Rathmullan in County Donegal under the overall Ramelton Millford Rathmullan (RMR) Sewage Scheme.
In the time between the original impact report being undertaken by Fitzpatrick in 2016 and the works commencing in 2023, a re-design had taken place on the scheme in the Millford area. This resulted in the final pipeline works and associated pumping station not impacting on either of the two monuments noted in the 2016 assessment. Monitoring of the works which did take place in the southern area of the town showed that a combination of bedrock lying close to the surface, considerable disturbance having occurred with the insertion of modern services and the construction of the Moyle and Ramelton roads had scarped the underlying natural subsoil to such an extent that any archaeological deposits which may once have existed in the area had been removed. Consequently nothing of archaeological interest was noted in the Millford section of the works.
