The site, located in Lackaghane Townland, County Cork, is a rural domestic site consisting of a dry-laid stone cabin associated with the McCarthy and Lordan families dating between c. 1850 and 1915 and its associated outbuildings. There is also the potential for the subsurface survival of a pre-Famine cabin to the northwest of the standing cabin ruin. At present, the focus is on the northern yard space related to the standing dry-laid stone cabin ruin, as well as to the east of the cabin. The 2023 excavations detailed two outbuildings east of the cabin and sought to find evidence of the pre-Famine buildings north of the standing ruin. The results of the excavations demonstrated the presence of a one-room addition to the east wall of the cabin, as well as the presence of an outbuilding illustrated on the 1892 Ordnance map. At this time, the excavations did not reveal evidence of the pre-Famine cabin illustrated in the 1842 Ordnance map. The artifacts recovered in 2023 related to the standing ruin and form part of the larger assemblage recovered from 2018 and 2019 and include ceramic and glass sherds and ferric pieces representing various farm implements associated with the Lordan family tenure on the property.
