A programme of archaeological testing and excavation originally took place in 2021 (https://excavations.ie/report/2021/Cork/0031361/)
The licence was reactivated in 2023 to facilitate additional test-trenching (Phase iii) for planned expansion of the project into eastern fields.
A total of twelve trenches totalling 152 linear metres were excavated during Phase (iii). Archaeological deposits were identified in Trenches 7 and 9, in the northern of the two fields. The archaeological deposits identified in Trench 7 consisted of three charcoal-rich deposits in shallow pits (max depth 0.35m), with a charcoal-rich linear feature in the western end. These correspond with Area M4 in the geophysical survey report. Archaeology in Trench 9 consisted of a shallow curved linear feature containing charcoal and heat-shattered stone. This corresponds with geophysical anomaly M3.
