The topsoil was removed by machine in 0.1-0.15m layers using a flat bucket. Two layers of material were recorded during monitoring. The uppermost topsoil layer was a light brown dry, loose silty clay with a low density of stone inclusions. It ranged in depth from 0.15m to 0.2m.  The subsoil was a grey-brown loose clay with a high density of stone inclusions. The landowner informed me that a shale bedrock was just a few feet below ground level. The interface between both layers was unclear and at times hard to define, there was a degree of mixing at the interface.

Nothing of archaeological importance was noted in the area that was stripped or in the soil removed from the site.
