Test excavation was made a requirement for a planning application for retention and for the upgrading of an existing wastewater treatment plant for a private dwelling. This was due to the discovery of a fulacht fiadh (CO111-098) during earlier construction works which had been retained in situ beneath the driveway. There are also a number of similar monuments in the immediate area.
The site consisted of the front lawn of a single dwelling house. Five test trenches were excavated – one along the pipe route and a further four, north/south across the percolation area. All trenches had a similar profile with c.0.4m of a mid-brown loamy topsoil overlying a mottled orange, stony boulder clay. No archaeology was found.
