Preliminary works were undertaken as part of the preparation works for the site. As a preface to the agreed-upon strip along the line of the tramway, seven test trenches were excavated to try and establish whether any remnants of the tramline still existed. Heavily fragmented and displaced pine sleepers and some rusted iron fixings were uncovered, but no evidence for the tramline itself.
The works undertaken were only preliminary, but showed that the tramline has probably been destroyed.
