Archaeological testing at Leamore Upper (Site A) was carried out over the course of 2 days in December 2022. Testing followed on from a programme of geophysical survey conducted across the proposed development site by ACSU Ltd. under licence 22R0341 (Russell 2022). Test trenches targeted several geophysical anomalies and greenfield areas across the proposed development area.
Testing revealed one area of archaeological significance, designated as Archaeological Area 1. This comprised a discrete U-shaped feature with steep sides and a flat base, 1.1m in length by 0.95m in width, with a maximum depth of 0.4m. The feature was filled with a black charcoal-rich clay and some heat-affected stone.
No other archaeological features were identified within the immediate vicinity.
