2022:874 - KILMOVEE COMMUNITY GROUP, Mayo

Archaeological Testing was required by the local planning authority for a development of 10 2-bed houses and 6 care homes, 1 outbuilding for refuse, storage and plant rooms. The existing outbuilding is to be restored and converted into sheltered meeting space and plant room, together with ancillary site works and services. There is also a plan to provide a walkway or path to the rear of the development. Given the size of the proposed development (over 1 hectare) within a greenfield site, licensed pre-development testing was required.

Topsoil varied from 0.1–0.4m deep. The natural subsoil varied from an orange compacted stony subsoil to a greyer compacted natural boulder clay. Nothing of archaeological significance was found.
