A programme of impact assessment and field inspection of the study area surrounding Aughnacliffe Heritage and Amenity Trail was carried in August 2022 to identify areas of significance or potential, likely to be impacted or have been impacted either directly or indirectly by the existing and proposed development. Approximately 50% of path construction, including drainage works and bridge removal, had taken place prior to the appointment of Atlantic Archaeology, including works in the vicinity of RMP LF006-004 and LF006-017, two megalithic tombs. Part of the route is located on the banks of two rivers historically associated with the milling industry.

No previously unrecorded archaeological finds or features were identified on the route of the trail, although potential features were identified in the immediate vicinity. Structures associated with the milling industry in the area were noted.
