A test excavation was recommended by Kerry County Council as a request for further information in advance of consideration of planning permission to construct a farm road network extending through the townlands of Kilfenora, Knocknanarney and Kilmakegoge on the east side of Fenit village. The proposed development is in close proximity to two ringforts (KE028-043 & KE028-047) and an enclosure (KE028-033).

A total of 12 mechanically excavated trenches were investigated along the entire route of the proposed road network, focusing in particular on those areas where the road will pass by archaeological monuments. No features or finds of archaeological significance was noted in any of the investigated areas.
