Pre-development testing took place of a proposed social housing development site at Rathmore, Co. Kerry.

Five trenches were opened across undisturbed areas of the site. Burnt mounds were recorded in Trenches 1 and 2 in the north-west corner of the site.

Burnt Mound A in Trench 1 was located at the western end of the trench and extended 9.5m east-west by 4.5m and remained to a depth/height of 0.35m above the basal clay. The feature was recorded and backfilled prior to excavation

Burnt Mound B was at the western end of Trench 2 and was separated from Burnt Mound A by only 4.5m. Burnt mound B extended 14.5m east-west by 11.5m. It remained as a low, domed mound 0.65m in depth/height. Again it was recorded and backfilled prior to excavation.

No other archaeological features or strata were identified during the course of testing.
