Testing took place as a part of an impact assessment undertaken in response to a request for further information with regard to a planning application to construct retail warehouse units at Manor West, Tralee, Co. Kerry. The southern limits of the proposed development contain a denuded monument classified as an enclosure, KE029-165. Three test trenches were undertaken to determine the nature of the enclosure. The excavated results of three cuttings revealed a coherent external ditch feature encompassing the monument establishing it as an Early Medieval ringfort. A 20m development buffer zone was extrapolated from the revealed outermost limits of the ringfort ditch.
