Eight trenches were excavated in greenfield site to the east of St Gertrude’s primary school, Scartlea, Killarney, in advance of the construction of six dwelling-houses and associated works. The general stratigraphy was a dark-reddish-brown sandy silt topsoil (average depth 0.2m) overlying the natural subsoil, a light-yellowish-brown silty sand with frequent inclusions of angular stones and occasional boulders. Nothing of an archaeological nature was noted during the test-trenching.
