Monitoring of topsoil-stripping prior to Phase 1 of a development was undertaken in March 2009. The work was undertaken with the assistance of Linzi Simpson and Stephan Bueck. The work revealed that the area, previously the west front garden of Kensington Lodge, bordered by Rochestown Avenue, had been levelled, presumably when the house was built. An infill deposit of humic soil formed the main deposit in this location. Three features of indeterminate age were identified: a spread of stones (possibly a linear soakaway), a charcoal pit and a set of cultivation ridges.
