An excavation was carried out in July/August 2009 to facilitate an extension to the quarry. The archaeology was located in an area measuring 10m by 15m and consisted of a subcircular spread of artefact-rich material surrounded by pits and hearths. Several stake-holes were uncovered beneath this spread. From these features a total of 572 sherds of pottery, both decorated and undecorated, 1187 fragments of struck flint, including two hollow scrapers, and a possible hammerstone were recovered. A large hearth was located to the south of the large spread, which appeared to have been used for the deliberate firing of flint. The archaeology abutted against the western edge of the site and probably continues in a westerly direction.
