South Tipperary County Council undertook testing as part of the requirement of Part 8 of the planning process for the building of a wastewater treatment plant on the outskirts of Cloneen village. The site is located within the south-west part of the constraint area of a deer park.
Three test-trenches were opened on the footprint of the proposed treatment plant. A single circular feature was discovered during testing. As a sherd of relatively modern pottery was obtained from within its fill, it is considered not to be of archaeological significance. The dimensions of the feature, 0.3m (18in), indicate it is probably a post-hole connected with early 20th-century agricultural activity. No archaeological remains or features were uncovered that in any way could be associated with the monument.
