A test excavation was carried out in Curraduff, Newmarket, in advance of the construction of a single dwelling house. The site is located within the constraint zone of a fulacht fiadh (CO022–047) which was identified by the Cork Archaeological Survey in 1984. In all, four test-trenches were opened and these were placed across those areas of the site where maximum ground disturbance would occur. The topsoil consisted of a thin cover of light-brown friable sandy sediment rarely exceeding 0.2m in depth. It overlay firm orange/brown clay with occasional large stones. All topsoil in the excavated areas was cleared to the natural boulder clay and no features or finds of archaeological significance were noted.
