Excavation was carried out along the route of the East Cork Gas Pipeline on behalf of Bord Gáis Éireann. Monitoring of the topsoil-stripping along the pipeline route between March and April 2008 revealed spreads of burnt-mound material at Crocane 1, Co. Cork. The features on this site were subsequently resolved in April 2008. Radiocarbon analysis of the site revealed that it dated to the Middle Bronze Age.
