The proposed development site is situated on the western outskirts of Aglish village in west County Waterford. It consists of one large field, 4.63 acres in size, and is roughly triangular in shape. Aglish church and graveyard, which are medieval in date, are situated 45m to the north-east. An impact assessment with testing was requested by Dungarvan Town Council in advance of a housing development. Seven test-trenches were excavated by machine.
A number of archaeological features were recorded in addition to a number of more modern furrows and linear features. Three post-holes, two ditches, four stake-holes and one spread were excavated. One of the post-holes and one of the pits contained Neolithic pottery. The finer pieces are of round-bottomed shouldered bowl and the coarser sherds may be slightly later coarseware. Most of the archaeology recorded was located to the north of the centre of the site.
Further archaeological work is required on site.
