The work was undertaken to determine the archaeological potential of an area of ancillary works associated with the N7 Nenagh to Limerick dual carriageway. The development site is located in the townland of Castlecranna, Chainage 20+200-20+500, to the north of Kilnacranna Bridge.
The first-edition map of 1843 shows three separate fields at the location delimited at the east by the (then in use) mill-race. By the revised map of 1938 these fields had been amalgamated into one and the flour mill had been converted into a creamery.
Eleven trenches were excavated on the development site. No archaeology was identified during testing.
