The site at Garretstown 3 was identified during monitoring of topsoil-stripping for road building carried out in May 2007 as part of the M3 Clonee to North of Kells motorway scheme. The site was located on flat agricultural land adjacent to Garretstown 1, previously excavated by Stuart Rathbone (Excavations 2006, No. 1566, E3060, A008/007). The site consisted of a pit (1.35m length by 0.28m depth) with evidence for in situ burning that had been cut by a second pit of similar proportions with charcoal fills. A burnt spread of black clayey sand and frequent charcoal inclusions (0.6m diameter) was also noted.
