This site was excavated as part of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford scheme, Phase 3: Kilcullen to Carlow. Centreline trenching (CRDS 2006) identified an oval patch of ash and a 1.5m-long linear deposit of burnt material. These were suggested to be a hearth and a burnt fence-line, perhaps for a windbreak.

Excavation revealed that the oval patch of burnt material was less than 0.05m in depth and it was thus interpreted as non-archaeological. The linear deposit had no clear defined form, tending to meander across the area of the excavation, varying in width and depth. The features appear more representative of clearance activity in advance of agriculture.
