An underwater assessment was carried out in June 2007 at the site of the Garretstown sewerage scheme outfall pipeline through Bullen’s Bay. The desktop assessment noted that the area surrounding Bullen’s Bay has been the site of human occupation for a considerable time.
The survey recorded the presence of a cannon ball adjacent to the outfall routeway. The origin of this artefact was indiscernible at the time of the survey, but it was considered possible that it may indicate the presence of a previously unrecorded shipwreck in the area.
