Fifteen test-trenches were excavated at this 4.81ha proposed commercial and residential development site in agricultural land in the village of Ballinascarty. The stratigraphy in the trenches consisted generally of mid-brown stony topsoil, 0.2–0.3m deep, over orange/brown stony clay subsoil. In the low-lying, southern part of the site there was up to 0.6m of dark-brown topsoil over grey clay. There was some evidence for plough furrows and the stone foundation of a road or yard was recorded close to the public road that bisects the site. No other features of archaeological significance were recorded.
