An impact assessment was requested as part of an application for planning permission to construct a single dwelling house within the constraint zone of a standing stone (CO059–021) and two fulachta fiadh (CO059–184, 185) in Knockraheen. The assessment also included a test excavation. The standing stone is incorporated into the sod and earthen bank forming the southern boundary to the site. The monument is indicated on the third edition of the OS map as a gallán. Four test-trenches were placed in those areas of the development that were subjected to maximum ground disturbance. These were all excavated to a level below the natural boulder clay, but no features or finds of archaeological significance were noted in any of the investigated areas.
