Ministerial consent was required for monitoring of a pipe trench, as it was taking place within state-owned land in the medieval town of Trim (ME036–048), which is subject to statutory protection as a National Monument. The trench was excavated on 13 and 14 November 2006 using a mechanical excavator equipped with a flat toothless bucket. No finds or features of archaeological significance were identified during the excavation of the trench. The area excavated had been disturbed by the excavation of existing service trenches immediately to either side of it and by the backfilling of these trenches.
